MICRO-FUNDRAISING

As an independent not-for-profit organization, Vision First (VF) does not receive government funding. We rely entirely on volunteers and donations from our generous community to run programs to serve the Asylum Seeker & Refugee (AS&R) community.

We need your support to enable the expansion of our programs, to relieve the struggle of AS&R in desperate situations. VF operates with no overhead expenses, even our newly opened centre in Sai Yun Pun is fully funded by a private donor. With a passionate team of volunteers who donate their time, expertise and personal esources, we pledge to employ 100% of your donation directly to the AS&Rs who need it most.

Here are some simple ideas on how you can help. Next time you are doing something with friends; why not add a fundraising aspect to it.

All funds raised can be transferred directly to Vision First Limited HSBC account 400 – 672952 – 001 HKD. If you send a confirmation email of your donation to cosmo@visionfirstnow.org and we will send you a tax deductible receipt.

POKER

“Every month I get a group of 7-9 boys together for a session of Texas Hold’em and raise anywhere between HK$4,000 – 6,000 per session.”
Dung Huynh, CBRE

How? – each participant pays HK$500 entry free. We use the entry to pay for pizza/beers and what is left will be donated. In addition, there is a tip jar allowing players to throw in tips throughout the night as they win.

FOOD

“Twice a month, our curry club gets together at the Taj Mahal in Chung King Mansions to enjoy a curry and a few drinks. Each member donates a minimum of HK$100 on top of the cost of the bill to charity. We normally raise around HK$3,000. We take it in turns to nominate a charity”
Robert Wilkinson, Fond Light

HOW? – Find a group of mates with a common interest in food. Allocate a different member to pick a new restaurant and rotate the responsibilities.

“I love having people around for a typical Australian BBQ. My friends are very charitable (and like a good steak), so I decided to ask them to contribute money whenever they have dinner at my house. We’ve raised over HK$2,500 so far.”
David Cooke, Macquarie

HOW? When you next organise a dinner party, ask your dinner guest if they want to make a contribution. You can leave it open to the guest or stipulate an amount per person.

SPORT

“I wanted to raise money for a charity. I wanted a fun event that was easy to organise. I created a lawn bowl tournament within days and raised over HK$20,000. Everyone brought along food and drinks and had a great time”
Cleo Guildford, Bank of America Merrill Lynch

HOW? – Decide on a sport. Book the venue on the HK government website http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/home.php . Send emails to friends and ask them to enter a team for a specific amount. Decide on tournament structure and send out a follow up email to explain tournament rules, how to get to venue, etc.

DRINKS

“I went to the bar with a few mates last week to watch the footy. We chose a charity to support and every time one of us bought a round, we put HK$100 into a kitty for the charity. To my surprise, we raised nearly HK$2,000 by the end of the night.”
Chris Berney, SYWG Securities

HOW? – Pick a pub, pick some friends, and drink lots!
