Guiding principles
We commit ourselves to the following ethical principles:
Vision First believes
- every person has the right to feel safe.
- everyone is entitled to the conditions of healthy living environments.
- in the opportunities that education affords all individuals.
- in access to preventative medicine as well as treatment for medical conditions.
- every individual has an equal right to the self-determination and participation in all areas of their lives.
These needs are met by advocacy, providing accommodation, education opportunities and access to medical services.
Inclusive Outreach
Vision First shall
- carry out activities for the most vulnerable and needy, irrespective of nationality, political affiliation, ideology, race, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
- respect the values, dignity, history, and religion of the cultures we serve.
- respect the right of individuals including the confidentiality of their personal information.
Human Rights & Dignity
Vision First
- respects cultural knowledge, the dignity and identity of individuals and their culture, faith and values. We do not support traditional practices that may harm an individual or the community.
- encourages and promotes the development of self-reliance and advances the right for clients to fully participate in decisions that affect their lives.
- plans, designs, implements, monitors and evaluates all programs with egalitarian practices and the participation of all parties concerned.
- exercises and promotes fairness, impartiality and equity in all of activities and in our dealings with staff, volunteers, community partners and organisations.
- fully integrates sensitivity into our human resource development and promotes non-discriminatory work practices and relationships.
Transparency and Accountability
Vision First’s
- purpose is to work in partnership with organisations with common goals to sustain the personal development of asylum seekers and refugees in Hong Kong, based on justice, equality, transparency, accountability and respect.
- funds and donations are only from sources whose aims are consistent with our mission, objectives and capacity and which do not undermine our independence and identity.
- relationships with funding agencies and donors are honest and transparent.
- cooperation with other NGOs will be based on equality, dialogue and mutual respect.
